Fue descubierto con una magnitud aparente de 15 al sureste de las constelaci\u00f3n de Popa (Puppis), en el hemisferio austral.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph_style_1\">En diciembre de 2014 el cometa ha alcanzado un brillo de magnitud 7,4, haci\u00e9ndolo accesible a trav\u00e9s de peque\u00f1os telescopios y binoculares. A mediados de diciembre fue visible a ojo desnudo para observadores con posibilidad de acceso a cielos oscuros y con buena agudeza visual. Durante el 28\u221229 de diciembre el cometa pasar\u00e1 a un tercio de grado del c\u00famulo globular M79, en la constelaci\u00f3n de la Liebre (Lepus). En enero de 2015 su brillo alcanzar\u00e1 la magnitud 4\u22125 y se convertir\u00e1 en uno de los cometas m\u00e1s brillantes localizados en a\u00f1os. El 7 de enero de 2015 el cometa pasar\u00e1 a una distancia de 0,469\u00a0AU (70.200.000\u00a0km) de La Tierra. Atravesar\u00e1 el ecuador celeste el 9 de enero de 2015, pudi\u00e9ndose as\u00ed observar mejor desde el hemisferio norte. El cometa alcanzar\u00e1 su perihelio el 30 de enero de 2015, a una distancia de 1,29\u00a0AU del Sol.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph_style_1\">Antes en entrar en la zona planetaria (\u00e9poca 1950), C\/2014 Q2 ten\u00eda un periodo orbital de unos 11.500 a\u00f1os. Despu\u00e9s de abandonar la regi\u00f3n planetaria (\u00e9poca 2050), tendr\u00e1 un periodo orbital de unos 8.000 a\u00f1os.<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph_style_1\"><\/div>\n<div
